Being Part of Christ’s Body

body of Christ

Bible Reference: 1st Corinthians 12:14-27 (NIV)

1 Corinthians 12:25 (MSG)
The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t…

THE CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE IN A CONGREGATION

1. The Spectators
– They show up to watch. They don’t get into it but they will analyze everyone that is participating.

2. The Doubters
– They are not willing to serve anywhere because they are not sure they have anything to offer. They have disqualified themselves.

3. The Nervous
– They keep wondering whether they are doing it right. They worry constantly.

4. The Comfortable
– They’re hardly surprised since they participate so much that they flow naturally in what they do.

5. The Enthusiastic
– They avail themselves and serve with their whole heart. They have a passion for what they do. This is where we should all be.

– God (in Exodus 3) asked Moses what was in his hand. It was an ordinary staff. That staff had everything that Moses needed for God’s work. It was untapped potential

– What is nothing to you is something to God. He used an ordinary staff to perform mighty miracles.

– We all have something we can give. Stop doubting yourself and avail what you have to God. The key is in the availability.

– What could the church be missing when we decide to be spectators instead of enthusiastic participants?

– For the comfortable, take caution not to be too familiar. Allow the Lord to anoint you freshly. Don’t attempt any work for the Lord without seeking Him first.

– Let us be enthusiastic: passionate for the work that God has commissioned us to do.

– Whatever is availed to God becomes His. In Exodus 4:20 the staff of Moses became the ‘Staff of God’. Our gifts are no longer ours but His. We no longer act in our own strength but in His strength.
